3. Process / Orientation Graphics

VISUALS ARE CRITICAL TOOLS FOR ORIENTATION that are often lacking in a leader's communication toolbox. My years in design and strategic planning have given me mad skills that help my clients not only think through what it is they're trying to DO, but also how best to TELL OTHERS graphically so that everybody involved understands what's going on.

Above is a graphic I developed with an organization I volunteer coach for called Women Leaders for the World. They use this as a ROADMAP to guide dozens of fellows through their year-long leadership development programs. Throughout the year, the organizers post this graphic to orient the participants, letting them know: "We are HERE now. And this is what's coming up...". An invaluable tool, especially given the many languages spoken among the participants.

The visualization process with a client often begins with an informal, gestural sketching out of elements. As a process is solidified, we add more detail to the visuals, then, if desired, polish up the graphic for presentation to their audience. This mirrors the process that architects follow: you don't invest the time producing formal drawings until you know how many bedrooms and bathrooms there are!
